SERVICES FOR STUDENTS
If you have finished your thesis or dissertation, congrats on all your hard work! If you’d like to polish your writing before submission, I can help. To get started, send me an email and let me know your word count and deadline. I’ll let you know how much your project will cost and how long it will take to edit. (It’s ideal if you can attach your project.) Once we have agreed on a service, deadline, and rate, I will send over a contract and an invoice for a down payment. You get to sit back and relax while I make your writing shine!
I’ll send back your returned files, and we’ll see if anything needs further changes. Once finished, I’ll send an invoice for the remainder of your project total, and we’re done! If your university requires proof of editing, I will send whatever materials are necessary (an email, receipt, or certificate) to confirm that you have finished editing services. Below you’ll find a detailed description of what academic editing entails.
Academic Editing
Academic editing makes your thesis or dissertation clean and consistent. I will include a light copy edit of your text and references, and I can offer formatting as well. When I edit your academic work, I am cleaning up the text and ensuring consistency with fonts, numbering, and spacing. Editing includes correcting spelling mistakes, punctuation problems, and capitalization errors. I will edit citations and ensure your manuscript adheres to the style guide of your choice.
I do not rewrite sentences, replace adjectives or adverbs, shorten run-ons, insert transitions, etc. In other words, I will make your writing clean and error free, not better. I can only offer heavy editing with written permission from an instructor. Here is a full list of what this service entails:
correct basic spelling, capitalization, and punctuation errors
correct any layout or formatting issues (font, spacing, etc.)
ensure references and captions are correct
correct misused words (e.g., effect for affect)
correct problems with subject-verb agreement
correct incorrect verb tense
fix unnecessary or missing commas
fix dangling or misplaced modifiers
correct problems with pronoun-antecedent agreement
ensure consistency with numbering in tables, figures, and illustrations
perform style editing (APA, MLA, CMS, or Turabian)
style titles, serial commas, numbers, acronyms, compound words, fonts, references, and illustrations in accordance with your preferred style guide
edit all in-text citations, footnotes, endnotes, and correlate parts. (Do all citations in the text appear in the references? Do all references appear in the text? Are all of the pages in the table of contents correct? Are all references to pages, tables, figures, captions and endnotes correct?)
Add-ons:
Formatting can be included for additional fee. Most universities have specific guidelines in regard to page numbers, which is usually a combination of Arabic and Roman numerals. If you would like to add formatting to your project, I will take care of your page numbers for you. I will insert section breaks where needed and format the page numbers according to your university’s guidelines. I will also update the page numbers on your table of contents and ensure that all headings and subheadings conform to your style guide of choice.
