Hi, I’m Theresa.

It’s so very nice to meet you! I’d like to congratulate you on finishing your manuscript. Writing a book or dissertation is a big deal, so I hope you celebrate the months or years of hard work you’ve put in. If you’ve found yourself here, that means you’re probably looking to hire an editor. If the idea of handing over something as personal as your writing seems overwhelming, you’re not alone. I have ghostwritten many articles, and I always find hitting the send button a little nerve wracking. I’d like to tell you a little about myself, so that you don’t feel like you are handing over your work to a total stranger.

I was raised in Virginia, and I grew up spending most of my free time at the beach. I love the ocean almost as much as I love books. Like most writers and editors, I have been in love with the written word since childhood. I enjoy reading and adding new treasures to my home library. You can often find me scouring bookstores for antique, rare, and out of print books. Words are my life, and when I’m not editing, you can catch me on Bookstagram chatting about my latest reads.

Before starting my own business, I spent years teaching literature and grammar. I hold a bachelor’s degree in English literature and taught at the middle and high school levels before starting my family. I have five little wildlings, and over the past few years we’ve traveled a lot. I’ve spent time in Washington, Alaska, and Arizona, which has afforded me the opportunity to enjoy some of the most beautiful hiking you can imagine. (Oh, and coffee! Nothing beats a PNW coffee shack.)

Copy editing is something that fell in my lap quite unexpectedly. After having my first daughter, a friend asked me to proofread her thesis. This led to her friends asking me to proofread their theses, and eventually the university asked if I would join their list of academic editors. I got my start editing dissertations, and a whole new world opened up to me. I realized that being a freelance editor would allow me to stay at home with my daughter and work from any state I wanted to. I saved up, and I completed my editorial training through Berkeley University.

I love editing, because I never stop learning. That’s one of the reasons I specialize in copyediting non-fiction. I edit theses, dissertations, and academic work, and I also work with self-published authors. I particularly enjoy editing self-improvement, memoirs, and inspirational books. Working behind the scenes and helping authors and students reach their goals is truly rewarding work. I love the feeling of helping someone cross the finish line!

My editing philosophy is simple—a good editor is invisible. I aim to bring out the very best in your work while preserving your voice and writing style. I can’t wait to hear from you!
